Patrick McLoughlin

Plant Breeding Graduate Student Mississippi State University - Starkville, MS

Patrick is a 20 year old undergraduate studying Plant Sciences at Cornell University. His concentration study is in plant breeding and is very passionate about botany and the nearly unlimited applications of plant breeding in the world today. Being an Eagle Scout, he sees potential for applying leadership skills both on and off the field. He is also an entrepreneur, having started his own business, Cayuga Botanicals, this past April. His company sells terrariums and plants as well as art at local festivals. In this business venture, he has learned a great deal about economics, business management, and marketing. Patrick is ecstatic to have been selected as an intern for this summer at Select Botanicals Group. He is proud to be working for a private business that is implementing plant breeding and considers Humulus to be a very versatile plant with potential for unconventional advancements in areas such as bio-remediation, green energy, and intercropping. He also sees this plant as a potential cash crop for small-time breeders, and gaining experience with a successful business will truly enable him to get a good grasp on what it is he wants to pursue with his education in the future.
